When do you need a marriage certificate translation?

A translated marriage certificate is most commonly required for:

• Changing your surname in the UK (banks, HMRC, DVLA, passport)
• Spouse visa applications (UKVI / Home Office)
• Divorce proceedings in the UK
• Registering a marriage conducted abroad
• Probate and inheritance matters
• Applying for family benefits
• Mortgage applications (solicitor, bank)

Most UK institutions accept a certified translation — they do not require a Polish sworn translation (tłumaczenie przysięgłe).

What we translate

We translate both the short extract (odpis skrócony) and full copy (odpis zupełny) of the Polish marriage certificate issued by the Civil Registry Office (Urząd Stanu Cywilnego).

If you hold a multilingual marriage certificate (international extract under the Vienna Convention), it may be accepted without translation in some countries. Check with the institution requesting the document.

We also translate British marriage certificates into Polish. If this is for a Polish court, ZUS, or government office, they may require a sworn translation from a translator registered with the Polish Ministry of Justice. Our translations are certified to the UK standard.
